[HEC-RAS] How to find a 2D cell ID quickly?
Yes, you are interested in knowing the water depth, water surface elevation, or velocity at a 2D grid point. But what's the cell ID number that I'm looking at? I would open the RAS Mapper and try to select the cell of my interest hoping a right click would pop up the cell ID. Nope! (Note that the RAS version is 5.0.7.)
Both in the Geometric Data window and the RAS Mapper, you can search a cell of a known ID, but not the other way around. Again, you can only search by a cell ID number, and it's not searchable by directly selecting a cell from a map.
Well, good news is that the version 6.0 included the functionality to show the cell ID!
You can right click on the cell of interest in the RAS Mapper, and there you can see the cell number. Finally!!

[SWMM] Creating time series: How to copy data from Excel to SWMM?
I'm a long time EPA-SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) user but every time I get a chance to work with the program I find myself a bit lost thinking 'what was the best way to go about xxx?'. This time I was trying to create a timeseries of inflow data and I forgot how to copy and paste my data from Excel to SWMM.
SWMM doesn't allow you to directly copy data from Excel and paste them in the timeseries editor. I recommend you to work in the Excel and copy the data into Notepad and then save it as .dat file. When you save the Notepad file, choose "All Files" under "Save as type" drop down menu. Then name the file as you want "with" .dat extension at the end.
Now you can link this .dat file from SWMM timeseries editor by checking "Use external data file names below" and navigating to the file.
